Here is my review and taste notes for Benromach Chateau Cissac 2006 vintage, 45%abv which was one of the single malts presented at my scotch club last night. 4200 bottles. 180 bottles made it to Canada.

Nose: Aromatic pipe tobacco and tobacco in the drying barn light up the olfactory sense. Apricots, summer meadow flowers, "tangy smoke" and blood oranges follow along in procession.

Palate: An intense spice hit is followed by exotic fruit in sweet syrup, black Australian licorice and deep oak reminiscences.

Finish: Long, spiced dark fruit with the Bordeaux red wine cask influence gift wrapping what came before.

This Speyside single malt from first fill bourbon casks had a finishing period of 20 months in Chateau Cissac wine casks and was bottled in 2014. The pink gold color is immediately inviting. This whisky to me harkens back to days when folks contemplated life surrounded by books and antique furniture and enjoyed the pleasure of sipping fine whisky.

Rating: 90

I have a bottle of the Benromach Hermitage Wood Finish which was released at the same time as the Chateau Cissac, not opened it yet. Hopefully the Hermitage matches the quality of the Chateau Cissac you tasted.
