I tasted only 3 Japanese malt whiskies since 2003 and for me the Suntory Pure Malt Yamazaki 18yo was the best by far. Top Malt
Nose: old leather with a faint spicy whiff of peat.
Taste: oaky notes and sweetness on the tongue.
Finish: estery and waxy
Balance: I have always been a bit apprehensive about "foreign" malts or whiskies but this one does it for me,
After all the Japanese must get it right one day . . . . they been trying to make whisky for over a hundred years now !!! Rolling Eyes
Try some and you'll be surprised .. . .

I havent yet tried any Japanese whisky but i see my local Tesco now stocks the Suntory Yamazaki 10 year old so i think it must be starting to get a following here in the UK.

That's another I tried Andy, a good malt but not outstanding, needs to be a bit older and maybe use of other oak.

I saw the Suntory Yamazaki 10 on the shelves in Tesco a few times but my curiosity got the better of me when they reduced it to £19.99

As Rene says a good malt but not outstanding, i would mark it 6 out of 10, but still worth a try if you are curious about Japanese whisky. Although i cant say if this is a typical example as its the only one i have had the pleasure of.
