Cracked open my first bottle of this first fill oak barrel offering from Spencerfield Spirit Company, Fife.
My bottle is 75cl and though it has no age listed on the label, I believe it is 5 years old. In 2008, Jim Murray described it as : "A big, sweet, chunky, gawky, grainlashed but hugely enjoyable blend".
Here are my own taste notes from today for this blend of Speyside, Islay and Lowland malts (about 40% in total) with Invergordon gentle grain whiskies:
Neat-
Nose: Red licorice, crushed watermelon chunks, cream soda, cherry nougat, more than a hint of berry salt water taffy and cotton candy, A delectable sweetness written all over it.
Taste: Malty, oily with dark stewed fruit and soothing prune nectar.
Finish: Lingering, spice and oak with spearmint gum notes.
***A youthful Scottish blend with a surprising personality. The "all in" impressive sweetness on the nose is tempered by a distinctly different malty palate and a strong oak finish.
Rating: 82.5
Interesting that the bottle offered here in Canada is 5cl larger and less money than the 70cl bottle in the UK. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
