Here are my taste notes and review of Springbank 12 Green Wood which was one of the single malts presented at my scotch club last night. 9000 bottles produced.

Nose: A field of wet moss with a hint of lemon grass, waves of vanilla and rice pudding pulling up the rear.

Palate: Spice, mint, herbal tea and cedar chest encrusted in very course sea salt.

Finish: Long, exaggerated mint, menthol and spearmint; dark chocolate (After Eight mints) with a peat and spice underlay.

This hay colored 12 year old single malt from Campbeltown was matured entirely in bourbon casks. It was produced naturally from farmed "organic" barley but since the distillery itself doesn't have apparently the right certificates, the resulting whisky cannot be designated organic, hence the "green" label. I have to say that I was expecting this whisky to be the star of the evening and it was not for me. I found this to be an "intense" whisky which to my taste is far too salty and somewhat unbalanced with jagged aromas and tastes that stick-out and don't meld as a whole. There were some folks last night at the dinner and tasting that did enjoy this one but it did not suit my palate. It had some moments in the nose and palate phases that pleased but the total package for me was missing.

Rating: 79.5
