I'm about to have what I think is a perfect whisky day in Speyside, all events via the Spirit of Speyside whisky festival.
Saturday 2nd May
9.15am- 1pm
A bus trip from Dufftown to Glendronach, tour with the manager and tasting at the end, some shop time.
1.30pm
Lunch in the Mash Tun
3pm-5pm
Glenfarclas tasting with George Grant in the Mash Tun, most of the core range.
6pm-7.45pm
Macallan Easter Elchies house, 4x F&R + chocolate, + "a special dram"
8pm
I'll need a lie down _________________ You can't push anyone up the ladder unless he is ready to climb himself. |

Sounds like a great scotch tasting day and more coming up for you on the 2nd of May.
Enjoy and let us know how it all goes. Cheers. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I only got back home late Monday evening
Glendronach, great trip and Karen the tour guide was superb, we tried the following :- 18 yr Tawny port, 18 yr Allardice, Cask strength batch 3, 1995 cask 3250, 1993 18yr cask??? and the 1994 bottle your own.
Best whisky by far for me was the 1994 bottle, a bottle had to be bought, the batch 3 was reduced in price so bought 2 and bought a Tawny 18yr.
Glenfarclas, was just ok, no talk by George and small measures of the following, 10yr, 15yr,21yr,25yr,40yr & 105.
Macallan, this was just amazing, all paired with chocolate, a whisky tasting that I will remember for years. I will never be able to afford a bottle of any of the following so at £65 it was a bargain.
F&R 1940 with a hint of smoke, wow,
F&R 1950 cask 600, a 52 yr crowd favourite.
F&R 1969 cask10412, quite sweet.
F&R 1975 cask 8845, very smooth finish.
Last one, was a 1997 cask16, Easter Elchies House exclusive, straight from a cask picked by Bob Dalgarno. This was my favourite!
The Macallan event was attended by Hans Offringa, a whisky writer, a really nice guy who has since sent me some pictures from the evening.
I popped into Glenfiddich the next day and bought a SOS festival bottle, cask 82/30318 1995 first fill sherry, 57.8%, it has a stunning colour and can't wait to try it. _________________ You can't push anyone up the ladder unless he is ready to climb himself. |

Sounds a fantastic day! That list of Fine & Rare Macallan is superb and impressive.
I'm glad it went so well.

Wow Stu that sounds like a fantastic day and that Macallan line up is truly exceptional! Shame about Mash Tun tasting, but the Glendronach tasting also sounds good.
1940's Macallan............ Maybe when I win the lottery!! Not jealous at all!!! |

Karen is a great guide and a lot of fun. It's interesting how Glendronach selects really good casks for bottle your own (although is rather expensive).
Enjoy yourself in Speyside and keep us posted! |
