Here are my own taste notes from the event last night:
Nose: Intense sherry burst, dates, smokehouse notes, Mediterranean spices, smoked BBQ'd salmon, cured salami, caramelized Vidalia onions and butterscotch.
Palate: Heightened spiced black cherries, Cognac notes and Australian black licorice.
Finish: Long, smoke and spice, tart cherries (unique sweet and sour influence), the call of the sherry cask and dark stewed fruit.
Rating: 94
***All one would want from a fine Macallan.

| Thanks for the tasting notes Murray. I had the Ruby in a Macallan tasting alongside the Gold, Amber, and Sienna. A lot of people seem to prefer the Sienna from the Macallan's controversial new range but the Ruby was my personal pick (which is unfortunate since it's double the price of the Sienna over here). Lots of dark fruit and a deep, rich flavour. Exactly what one would want from a Macallan as you say, a pity about the price. |

I am a big Macallan fan Alex and i would agree that the Macallan Ruby is the best of the new look Macallan range if you are looking for the intense Macallan sherry character. But is it worth the additional price without an age statement which for me is what qualifys a whisky for a increased price tag. It is very good but i think we are being ripped off as far as price goes. |
