BenRiach have launched the BenRiach 10 year old, the first core range whisky produced from spirit distilled under The BenRiach Distillery Company's ownership.
Bottled at 43% ABV, and as we have come to expect from BenRiach it is non chill filtered and naturally coloured, the BenRiach 10 Year Old is Classic Speyside in character. The cask formula focuses on ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks - exactly the types of wood BenRiach favour.

I would hope so as it would be good to have another choice on the supermarket shelves but the supermarkets is not really an outlet the Benriach Distillery Company has used in the past so we may not see it in the supermarkets. You need a big stock of whisky to keep a big supermarket chain supplied so given that the Benriach Distillery Company acquired BenRiach from Chivas Brothers in April 2004 i doubt they would have the matured stock of 10 year old to supply one of the bigger supermarkets yet, but time will tell.

| I'm really looking forward to this - I've actually only had peated BenRiachs so far, I assume this one will be 'natural'? Also unusual to see a non chill-filtered whisky bottled at 43% ABV, isn't it? The only other that comes to mind is the GlenDronach 12. |

Who are owned by the same people. It is a bit strange, maybe they don't feel that the spirit needs any extra punch to carry the flavour, or the profile they are going for requires less alcohol input.
Looking forward to this myself, big fan of Benriach and I really like their house style when unpeated. Light fruit, quite sweet and plenty of cereal/malt. Young like this it should be a great summer whisky....maybe this is why it's being launched in spring?

Good to see that it is non chill filtered even at 43%. Benriach whisky is usually only available from specialist whisky retailers so I would guess there customers will be more knowledgeable about chill filtration and wouldn't be put of by a bit of cloudiness in the whisky if it was to get cold.
The new Benriach 10 is a welcome addition and hopefully a good one. |
