Hello everybody,
I don't think there's a specific subforum here where new members can introduce themselves. If so, please move this post to the right place. And if there isn't, maybe there should be one?
Anyway, my name is Thijs (29) and I'm from The Netherlands. My name is difficult to pronounce for anyone not born in Holland. Just think 'ice' and put a T in front of that. Been reading this forum for some time now, and finally decided to sign up as a member. I've been drinking malt whisky for about seven or eight years, but since my first visit to Scotland in the summer of 2013, whisky has turned from a hobby into somewhat of an obsession.
Since that first visit, I've been back for three more visits. One was a rather epic sailing trip to the isles on the Scottish west coast. The two others were shorter trips to Inverness and Speyside. Some of my favourite distilleries include Old Pulteney (my first love), Littlemill, Benromach and Clynelish. I've visited quite a few distilleries already, including the aforementioned (except for Littlemill of course).
I'm a journalist by day, and every once in a while I write for a Dutch magazine called Whisky Passion. Since I already write for a living, starting a blog was sort of a logical step. It now serves as an outlet for my obsession, and has also been a wonderful way to get in contact with other whisky enthusiasts.
Thanks for taking the time to read my short introduction. I hope to learn and contribute a lot here _________________

Hi Thijs. Welcome to the Forum. Sounds like you have a "passion for the dram". I'm sure you will enjoy the site and the folks who regularly contribute posts and interesting subject threads. Have you tried any special drams in the last year or so? I had occasion last January to try some premium and super premium scotches including the Mortlach 18 and 25 Year, John Walker and Sons Odyssey, Glen Ord 30 Year and The Singleton of Glendullan 38 Year. Cheers. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I'm lucky in that I get to try some special stuff every once in a while. A nice by-product of all new people I meet through my blog is that a lot of folks are more than willing to swap samples or in some cases sell 'em at cost price.
Just yesterday I tasted an incredible St. Magdalene 1966/1996 G&M. A fantastic old-style whisky, they don't make 'em like this anymore. And not that long ago I tasted this superb old Macallan. The best whisky I've tasted so far :D _________________

William and sorren, thanks for the welcoming words.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend. My blog just is a big part of my own whisky experience. And that's why I included it in my introduction.
I didn't include a link to my blog in the opening post. Only when I was asked if I had tasted some special stuff, did I link to my blog. Just thought that was an easy way to show what I was talking about. I won't do it again if that isn't permitted. I suppose linking to the blog in my signature isn't a problem?
As far as financial gain, well, that's pushing it a bit. The samples are a small part of the blog, and if I get an inquiry once a month, then that's a lot I have a blog because I love whisky, I like to write and also like learn. And by writing and comparing tasting notes I learn a lot. _________________
