Just returned today from a 5 day trip to Montreal Quebec to see family so I was off the grid for a while. I had a most enjoyable visit to an SAQ outlet, Quebec government run liquor store in Montreal and they had quite a nice selection of single malts and blends. Interesting that they sell the Johnnie Walker Double Black and Ontario does not. I was approached by one of the clerks who had noticed I had been looking at the single malts and offered me an opportunity to try some. It was fairly early in the day so I only had one, Glendronach 15 Year Revival which I quite enjoyed. He had about 15 bottles to choose from for trying. This does not happen in Ontario in my experience and is a pleasant contrast. It's so nice to be able to try things before you buy as William has said so many times and I totally agree. We spent about 30 minutes chatting and it made for a great experience. I also found the clerk to have a keen interest in single malts. He mentioned his personal favorites were the older Glenfarclas expressions. Just unpacking from my flight and will get back to enjoying some of my favorite drams tomorrow. Cheers.

Hi John, duty free/ travel retail is not an option (ineligible) when travelling in Canada In spite of going from one Province to another. Since I was flying and travelling light I didn't pick up anything in Montreal at the SAQ (equivalent to LCBO in Ontario). There seems to be an SAQ in Montreal on every street corner. I have so many new additions that I purchased in Ontario in the last few months that I am pulling back with purchases until I enjoy some of the "hoard" I purchased here.

I might also add that the availability of premium single malts seems greater in Quebec than in Ontario at least the places I've visited for whisky.

| That is a pity Murray, at our airports we have travel retail and also duty free if traveling outside Europe. |

| The airport, whisky companies and Canadian government must be missing out on a lot of money from the gift buying travellers as i believe quite a high percentage of single malt whisky sales comes from travel retail. |

Hi James. Duty-free shops here are intended for Canadian customers who are about to leave Canada. Goods purchased at a duty-free shops in Canada must be immediately exported to another country to which they are travelling to. Also, Canadians travelling into Canada are limited to very small and specific quantities of spirits even if a way for a long time.
