A new technology has arrived where a sensor tag is fitted to each side of the scotch bottle and can link with smart phones sending adverts and recipes for cocktails etc. Diageo has partnered with Johnnie Walker for this one.
Hi Murray, i got the press release from Diageo last week on the new smart bottle, i forgot all about it, i meant to add a piece to the site, i wonder how wide spread the use of the thinfilmsmart bottle will become.
It would be great if you coud scan a bottle in a shop and get all the info on it and more importantly independent reviews, that would appeal to me and i am sure many others. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky.
That would be good William but i doubt the shops or the whisky brands would want the customer exposed to uncontrolled reviews.
Even without the this technology the reviews now are very much controlled or influenced by the whisky makers. Search for a review on a new whisky release and the chances are you will find a review from staff in a whisky shop or from the handful of crappy whisky blogs who never fault any whisky.
Then there is the journalists who have declared themselves as whisky experts and carved themselves out a nice earning little niche such as Dominic Roskrow who again never finds a bad whisky. Some like to knock Jim Murray but whether you agreed with his reviews or not he did say when he thought something was bad although it always seemed like he couldnt fault the Glenmorangie Company even if they released a fart.
