|
|
Fascinating discovery. My friend dropped off to me a 1 litre bottle of Johnnie Walker Double Black he got for me at Duty Free in Charlotte North Carolina. When he handed it to me he said there is a loud rattle coming from the top of the bottle when handling. Sure enough, that was the case. I would have initially thought it may have been broken in some way but I actually had another unopened bottle of the same JW, same size, also from a Duty Free this time from Buffalo. When I gently shook it, low and behold, it made the same loud rattling noise. So, is this some kind of valve to release pressure or some other extra stopper in the bottles? There is no bottle damage here so it has to be some type of gadget for some reason. Any info on this folks? _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Yes it's annoying isn't it?
I first came across this with a 1 litre bottle of Spice Road. It's meant to enable a controlled and steady pour. Not a fan as it somehow feels like I am using a can of spray paint as a dispenser. |

That's exactly how it sounds! _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Murray, Johnnie Walker have fitted the bottle with a pourer, a lot of people find it very annoying when pouring the whisky but there is a knack to it. The rattle is a small plastic ball rattling around.
It also has another purpose, to stop fakes. Johnnie Walker is very popular in Africa where fake whisky is widespread and is often filled into genuine bottles but you cant refill a bottle with a pourer and you cannot remove the pourer without damaging it. I expect the pourer will become more widely used in the future. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

That solves the mystery.

| I found these pourers annoying at first but there is a knack to them, although if your pour too much there is no way to pour it back into the bottle. |
