I came across this list in the Independent newspaper and thought i would see what others thought of it.
It was in the Independent on Thursday 22 Jan and the list was chosen by well known whisky man Charles Maclean. Anyway here is his list:
1. Johnnie Walker Black Label
2. Lagavulin 16 Year Old
3. The Glenrothes 1985
4. Old Pulteney 12 Year Old
5. Clynelish 14 Year Old
6. Auchentoshan 18 Year Old
7. Asyla (blended Scotch, from Compass Box)
8. Highland Park 18 Year Old
9. Bailie Nicol Jarvie (a blended whisky from the Glenmorangie distillery)
10. Talisker 10 Year Old I known it is all a matter of personal taste but i am very surprised to see JW Black Label at No. 1 spot also surprised to see BNJ in the list. The list has got me curious about Auchentoshan 18 which i have never had.
What do you all think of this so called list of "Ten Best Scotch Whiskies".

Surprised, i cannot believe JW Black even makes it into such a list never mind being top of the list. I have no idea what the criteria for this list was but i have got to wonder how a few of the whiskys in the list are there at all.

They are all good whiskies in there own right but it is vey odd to see a few of these whiskies on this particular list, Johnnie Walker does not even compete in the same league as the likes of Lagavulin, I wonder what influenced some of these whiskies inclusion on the list as some are premier drams and a couple of others are good drams but not in the same league. There are so many more whiskies that should have been there before the likes of JW Black.

With this list appearing in a natioanal newspaper such as the Independent it is sure to influence its readers but what influenced what appears in the list as Alastair says some of these whiskies are not even in the same league.Very odd to see JW and BNJ in the list. I have never had Asyla so cant comment on it. It is almost like a list of quality different available style whiskies instead of a top ten list.

They are all pretty good whiskies but the list looks more like a what we would like you to buy rather than the top 10 which you can buy.

I must say i am surprised to see Johnnie Walker Black Label on the top of this list, it is a very good blend but is not superior to many many malts.
