|
|
Hi everyone - looking for some opinions and experiences here - how do miniatures compare vs full bottles? I've recently tried some old miniatures compared to recent bottles from the same distillery; I was wondering do they really reflect the output produced at the timecompared to that in a full (70 or 75l) bottle?
I know in theory they are the same, glass is inert etc. but would be interested in opinions and experiences
Regards (and merry christmas0 _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |

Well I can't speak for old vs new but I can speak about difference (or not) in "aging" in the different bottle sizes; I've had both miniature and then a full size bottle of Ardbeg 17yo a few years back and there was no different at all that I could tell, other than may be batch related as I don't know if they were both bottled from the same bottling run.

I have always been under the impression that there should be no difference between mini and full size bottles but from different times then I would expect a bit of difference, I always look at mini bottles as always giving that newly opened taste, .. But I'm sure some one else will give you s better answer |

I didn't think toshan did miniatures, I mean there's not much taste in a standard bottle so the last thing you want it less of it.. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Merry Christmas... It's too late for that, I should make you sample loads of different toshans just so you can learn to appreciate a proper whisky...

| I find the quality of the actual miniature bottles can vary leading to evapouration or just loss of some flavour over time. |

| I agree some old miniatures can lose some character with time probably due to the seal. |

*waves hands*
I think their shit too - can I be educated?
But I do think a miniature can ever be as good as a whole bottle. Reason? Ask anyone on here how a bottle had changed it's complexion after it being open for a while. All sorts of wizardry in action that happens to change the slight balance of flavours for the better - I've not heard of someone saying that the bottle gets worse, just better and IMO that rings true for me. |

| Miniature caps are very susceptible to evaporation, much more so than a corked seal. My collection of minis is getting ever smaller! |

That's why you wrap the top in cellophane and electrical tape _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Ok the line up for your education is
Auchentoshan festival 2009
Auchentoshan valinch 2011+ 2012
Auchentoshan 18 and 21
Auchentoshan hand fill 1996 and 1999 and 2001
Auchentoshan 1979 32yo sherry cask
I think that's a fair line up from the distillery
