As part of the Johnnie Walker global responsible drinking programme, Join the Pact, the world's leading Scotch Whisky, said it was giving away 250,000 kilometres of safe rides around the world during the festive season to encourage people not to drink and drive.

Once again this year in Edinburgh, Johnnie Walker is partnering with Lothian Buses to provide free bus services for revellers returning home from the city's Hogmanay event on New Year's Eve.

During the launch event Mika Hakkinen, former Formula 1 driver and Johnnie Walker Global Responsible Drinking Ambassador came together with Formula 1 drivers Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen and demonstrated their control skills and provided rides in Edinburgh city centre to competition winners, media and special guests in a Johnnie Walker branded Caparo T1 supercar and two McLaren MP4-650S sports cars.

You can view some footage from a on board car cam taken while Jenson, Kevin and Mika drove through Edinburgh in the supercars.

Hi William. A nice gesture on their part. Interesting though that not a single Canadian city is mentioned. Johnnie Walker blends are quite popular in Canada. Maybe the drivers were going so fast they forgot to get off at the exit marked: "Canada".

I wouldnt have minded a drive around Edinburgh in a Caparo T1 supercar with Jenson Button

The Caparo T1 looks an amazing machine, i wish i had known they were doing this in Edinburgh as i would have went along to see Mika Hakkinen, Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen drive these cars.

I believe it is almost Â£250,000 for a Caparo T1, i am sure it is an amazing car.

I see the drink drive limit in Scotland was cut today from 80mg to 50mg of alcohol in every 100ml of blood bringing Scotland into line with Europe but England, Wales and Northern Ireland dont have any plans to follow Scotland. The change means that motorists could be breaking the law after just one small glass of wine or one pint of beer. I am not sure if a single 25ml measure of whisky at 40% ABV would put you over the new limit but i wouldnt risk it, if i am am driving i never drink at all.

Nobody agrees with drink driving but im also not in favoyr of zero tolerence and scotlands new lower dd limit, another money raking scam by the goverment.

I have to say i agree with them lowering the limit.

There is no excuse and no need for drink driving and i think this is the right move by the Scottish government and only those who drink and drive will be opposed to it.
