New Macallan Distillery Recieves Planning Permission

You may recall that back in November 2013 The Macallan announced its plans to build a new distillery and visitor centre for The Macallan, it has taken a while to get through the planning stages but today The Macallan have been granted planning permission by The Moray Council for a new £100m iconic distillery and visitor centre on The Macallan Estate in Speyside.

Very diffent looking, i wonder what the capacity will be and what they will do with the existing distillery. Also will the supply of quality sherry casks be able to support a significant increase in output of will we see more fine oak style in the future.

It is certainly very different looking, i wonder if that is the stillhouse under the grass roof? If so it is going to be big.

I've seen detailed images of what it will look like, very modern as you can tell, most of the building is hidden and lots of tree planting. Also contains a whisky storage facility area, under a grass hill ?.

Just an update on the new Macallan distillery. Edrington yesterday marked the official start of works on its £100m iconic new distillery and visitor centre for The Macallan.

Designed by RSHP to complement the natural beauty of the area and The Macallan Estate, which overlooks the River Spey, the new home of The Macallan is scheduled to open to the public in spring 2017.
