The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve Coming Soon!

The Glenlivet have unveiled a new permanent No Age Statement addition to its core range of single malt whiskies, The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve. The Glenlivet tell me that house style that we are familiar with is complimented with a creaminess and sweetness from the addition of First Fill American oak casks.



The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve will be bottled at 40% ABV and will be rolling out in markets globally from March 2015, priced alongside The Glenlivet's 12 Year Old expression.

I dont see the Glenlivet 12 being phased out but perhaps the new Glenlivet Founders Reserve will slot in beside it for a while then the 12 year old will gradually be positioned at a higher price. I do like the sound of the Founders Reserve

It does seem like more and more we will be paying for a flavour profile rather than age which seems to be slowly disappearing from supermarket shelves and we are being pitched the flavour profile as a justification for the price. How long before an age staement whisky will be almost exclusive to a whisky specialist shop.

To steal a bit of old Glenlivet advertising"Age Matters", not so much to the flavour but it does to the age and it does seem like all the big companies are slowly moving NAS whiskies into their core ranges.

Yes it does seem to be that the intense flavours imparted by first fill or sherry casks are being used to subsitute age and justify the price.

I am not knocking the new Glenlivet Founder's Reserve, having tasted the travel retail Glenlivet 12 First Fill i am sure this will be worth trying.

Well, I'm not sure how similar to the 12 First Fill this will be - looking at the phrasing in the original post it suggests that only a portion of it will be matured in first fill casks, as opposed to exclusive maturation in first fill casks.

They can correct me if i am wrong but i think others will realise it isnt 100% first fill but knowing the quality of the travel retail 12 first fill like myself they think it could be an interesting mix of first fill snd standard glenlivet

I wonder if the other big 2 Glen's, Glenfidich and Glenmorangie will follow suit with a no age statement expression in the domestic market
