The NEAT Glass - Whisky Tasting Glass

The Neat Glass is quite a different looking whisky tasting glass compared to the Glencairn or copita style whisky glass which would be the glass of choice for most single malt whisky drinkers. The NEAT Glass was invented in America and from today it will be available in the UK and Ireland, so I thought I would take a look at it.

It does look like a strange glass, i think i will give this a miss as i am happy with my Glencairn glass.

Hi William. There is no doubt where you stand on this one. I have had a couple of these glasses for a few years and rarely use them now. When I first got them, I initially was attracted by the story line behind their invention. There may have even been a bit of a placebo effect for me. I wanted it to work. It certainly did reduce whisky burn. However, after using the NEAT glass repeatedly, I found that aromas during the nose phase of tasting were sometimes quite diminished for me and the unzipping of layers of aromas and flavors was also more difficult compared to the same dram in a Glencairn glass.. I agree that holding the glass at times is awkward and furthermore that spillage of whisky is easily done when sipping from the glass at least the way I do it. That's my own take and opinion on this glass. I have always preferred the Glencairn glass.

Hi Murray,

The Neat Glass contacted me a few weeks ago and sent me a glass to review as they were launching it here in the UK and Ireland today. I tried it half a dozen times thinking I was missing something as it couldn't possibly be as bad as what I thought but it really is.

I know what you mean when you say the spillage of whisky is easily done when sipping from the glass.

This is as much use to whisky tasting as a square wheel is to Formula 1 motor racing. The last attempt I had at trying the Neat Glass I ended up pouring the whisky out of the glass and into a copita glass as I was wasting the whisky tasting it use the Neat Glass.

As I said in my review, I really cannot recommend it at all.

For whisky, wine or any spirits tasting i doubt the tulip shaped glass can be beaten. The Neat glass does look odd, cheers for your review, i think i will give it a miss. What was the price on it anyway?

I have saw this but it didnt appeal to me.
