Hi, I came into a bottle of Glenfiddich Special Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky that has been in storage for over 20 years. Can anyone tell me more about this bottle? The serial number on the bottom of the bottle just reads 4 with 2292 underneath. It came in a tin container.

Many thanks!

Does it have an age statement on the bottle, does it say pure malt or single malt. Either way these bottles dont have a great deal of value.

Hi, there is no age indicator on either the bottle or tin container. The label only indicates Single Malt Special Reserve. It was purchased over 20 years ago so was wondering if that increased the value due to its current age.

I have the same bottle and expression which also was in storage for at least 20 years given me by a friend who was not a scotch drinker. I put out some queries on this one well over a year ago and the general consensus was that it is not particularly valuable. The identification number on mine is 2714......41

Does the ID number represent a chronological sequencing of production, as such 2292 would be earlier than 2714?

I don't know. In any event, this was a mass produced staple scotch at the time and does not IMO hold any particular interest to a collector of rare expressions from the distillery.

These id numbers dont really mean anything, i believe they are simply for quality control purposes. inz whisky stops ageing when it is bottled it only ages in the barrel it was matured in. As others have said you dont get a great deal for these bottles as there are loads around. If you are looking to sell you could try scotchwhiskyauctions.com or mctears.co.uk
