Order packaging issue

Okay, so here's the deal.

My Blantons turned up today. I love his bourbon so was very excited. Box open. Smell of whisky. Oh dear.

looks like the closure has opened in transit but obviously I can't be sure that the contents is okay and hasn't been tampered with. Very little spillage but enough to make the bottle and the box sticky.

I ring Amazon and explain. They will send a replacement bottle for no charge and told me to keep the original. Bonus.

really great customer service, nice one amazon.


so what do I do? I take it this opened bottle is unlikely to make me go blind, smells like blantons. Do I drink it or throw it?

It's a shame the bottle apparently sprung a seal leak but customer service once notified handled the matter well. If the outside mail packaging shows no tampering and there is no evidence of glass breakage but some minor spillage/leak inside the package from the bottle, it may be fine to drink. You could pour a drink and inspect it up close and personal. Being familiar with this bourbon you are in the best position to determine if it smells "right" and tastes "right". If it was mine, I would probably try (nose and taste) a small bit, evaluate it and then decide. Let us know what you decide.

Sounds like a plan. Smells right but they are single barrels so always a degree of difference. I enjoy got a palate full of farclas 105 at the moment so ill have a taste on a clean palate tomorrow. Hopefully it's not anti freeze.

Well, tastes like blantons too. High rye and we'll made so if someone has tampered with it then they put some good stuff in the bottle.

It's less rich than my last few and a bit more 'zingy', but it's single barrel so that may be expected. I'll do head to head with the new bottle and see how it stands up.

If I don't go blind in the next few hours then I guess it's okay.

Sounds like the contents of your bottle is just fine. I've heard of people in Europe who order whisky there receiving delivered bottles that were broken/shattered when they arrived. I don't imagine it takes too much if bottles are shifted around roughly by happenstance for a seal to break or leak/crack to develop. That's part of the reason why shipping of alcohol is not allowed to or in Canada. As you say, it will be interesting to compare this one with the last one bearing in mind as you say they are single barrels. Enjoy.
