Valuing and what a whisky will actually fetch at auction are 2 different things. The final sales price at auction can vary widely with a whisky such as this it just depends on the bidders on the day.
The prices you will see in whisky shops is not the same as what a bottle will fetch at auction, a shop charges 20% VAT and also has its own profit to make. You will often only fetch half the shop price at auction but some rare highly sought after collectable whiskies can fetch close to the shop price at auction.
My guesstimate would be £200 - £300 for this at auction then you would have auction costs to come off, but as i said the price at auction can vary widely.
Ok thanks for your insightful Troy Mark. I'd be interested to hear from a few other members but it sounds like you know what you're talking about! Many thanks.
The shop price of a whisky can often be as much as double what a whisky will fetch at auction. For valuation for insurance i would say use the shop price but to estimate what a whisky will fetch in a private sale or auction your could be looking at as much as half the shop price. I would say around £200 for this at auction but that can vary widely on the day as Mark says. You could try searching through old auctions at mctears.co.uk and scotchwhiskyauctions.com to find similar bottles and see what they are fetching in todays market.
