...you have to spend the next couple of weeks at your flat near work as opposed to home, and you lament the fact that the only bottles you have on the go at that place are a Talisker 10, Balvenie Doublewood and Port Charlotte Peat Project.

When I started being interested in whisky I thought that having anything more than two bottles on the go at the same time was absurd, but now - how am I going to survive?! Laughing

I had the same problem at one time, its easily solved, buy more and open them. Very Happy

I often spend weekends at my home in Northern Ireland where at one time I would only have had a handful of bottles opened at any one time. This became frustrating when I would be in the mood for a certain style of whisky which I knew I had open at my home in Scotland so over time I ended up with around the same amount of bottles opened in Northern Ireland as I have at my home in Scotland which is usually around 50 to 60 bottles opened at any one time on each side of the water. Sometimes the limited edition whisky I would decant into 100ml bottles (the limit to take through the airport in hand luggage) to take over with me. You could try taking some samples to your flat near work.

Mrs T still thinks I am mad with the amount of bottles i have on the go at any one time, which i try to keep around 50 but can vary by 20 up or down the way.

Alex that is a good idea from William, when i travel i usually pack a few samples to see me through my time away.

Good idea William, I have just ordered an emergency bottle of Benromach 10 to remedy the situation a bit!

Edit: James - yes, actually the Talisker 10 is a 200ml bottle I packed in haste since it was my only small bottle. I'll be more prepared next time.

Funny, I'm the other way. I try to keep the bottles I have open down to the ones I'm going to drink and then I replace them. Ususally I have around 6-8 open at any one time which will last around 2-3 months. I put a large order in every 2 months when open stock is running low.

I've found this is the best way for me because I've got major OCD issues and if I had a large number of bottles open I'd start to get stressed out with which ones to drink and when the bottles become low I'd try to finish them off a bit too quickly and burn through stuff that is fine to be left.

..........but I have major OCD issues Mad

The bonus is that I tend to buy more than I drink so I've got a very healthy unopened stock for the future should anything happen to prevent my current.....er....outlay on stock.

I have 18 open bottles right now, I am running low on my Islay whiskies and plan to order another bottle of Ardbeg and a bottle of Kilchoman Machir Bay.
