Whisky Forum - Scotch tasting and dinner tonight and "The Results"

My single malt club in Ontario is having one of our 3 course dinners and tastings tonight in Niagara-on-the-Lake. I was informed of the 3 distilleries represented but not the exact expressions. Will let you know tomorrow after the event. The drams will be from Imperial, Tomintoul and Arran. I have never had anything from Imperial so that should be particularly interesting. Anyone try anything from Imperial?

I had a Gordon & MacPhail Imperiel bottling some time ago which had been matured in a sherry cask. I think G & M have done a few 1990's vintage releases of Imperial. I forget the vintage of the bottle i had but it was a decent sherried Speyside malt.

I believe the Imperial owners, Chivas Brothers, have demolished the old Imperial distillery and are supposed to be building a new Imperial distillery on the site.

Imperial never really caught the attention of whisky drinkers like other closed distilleries did, not sure why as any i have tried has been pretty good.

Just got back from the dinner and tasting. I had a really great night and the drams were especially good.

The first was Tomintoul Peated 9 Year which is unusual for a Speyside and 40%abv.

The second was Berry Bros. and Rudd 1995 Imperial Distillery 17 Year drawn from Cask No. 50075 bottled in 2012. 46%abv. This one is something special.
*****I am very pleased to say I was able to get a bottle of this one to take home.

The third dram was Isle of Arran 15 Year bottled excusively for the Companions of the Quaich from a single cask, a single sherry hogshead at 55.7%abv with only 296 bottles available.
