The Glenmorangie Company's world-renowned whisky pioneer, Dr Bill Lumsden, has fought off stiff competition from across the globe to be named Industry Leader of the Year for the third time at the Malt Advocate Awards 2008.
The prize was awarded to Dr Lumsden - Head of Distilling and Whisky Creation at The Glenmorangie Company - for an impressive contribution to the whisky industry over the past year. Dr Lumsden has lead his team to reveal three bold new product innovations in 2008 - Glenmorangie Signet, Glenmorangie Astar and Ardbeg Blasda.
The award recognises exceptional achievements in the drinks industry and honours the "best of the best".
Dr Lumsden said: "It's a great honour to receive this award for the third time. These awards are highly respected across the world. Those eligible for the prizes must be doing business in the United States and this is endorsement of the advancements we have made in the US market and enthusiasm there is for our products."?
Lumsden is a leading authority in whisky creation and in 2007 he was awarded the Global Ambassador of the Year and Scottish Distiller of the Year by Whisky Magazine for his worldwide work promoting The Glenmorangie Company's portfolio of brands. He has also received the Malt Advocate Magazine Industry Leader of the Year Award in both 2006 and 2001 in recognition of his position as one of the most knowledgeable and forward-thinking distillers in the world.
Lumsden's triumph follows the recent success of Ardbeg Uigeadail being named World Whisky of the Year by whisky authority and writer, Jim Murray, in his Whisky Bible 2009.
Both accolades are further endorsement of The Glenmorangie's Company's decision to highly focus its activities on developing innovative products for its highly successful premium single malt Scotch whisky brands - Glenmorangie and Ardbeg. The recently announced strategy is part of a major two-year investment programme that will see the Company relocate its headquarters to central Edinburgh, build a new bespoke bottling facility and expand capacity at Glenmorangie and Ardbeg Distilleries.
Now in its fourteenth year, the Malt Advocate Whisky Awards encompass the people who work in the industry, the products they create, and the distilleries where those products are made.

Well done Dr Lumsden keep up the good work and introduce many more great Ardbeg's.
The ones I've dronk - drunk - drink are some of the greatest malt whiskies in the world.
