Ardmore's owners have decided to have a bit of a shake-up and are replacing the Ardmore Traditional, Ardmore's only core single malt expression with a new bottling called The Ardmore Legacy.
The new Ardmore Legacy continues the distillery's tradition of lightly peated Highland single malt whisky. The Legacy is a marriage of 80% Peated malt and 20% Unpeated malt which has resulted in a lightly peated Highland malt which has been bottled at 40% ABV. IMO the Legacy is a less peaty, less spicy and less toffee'd expression than the Ardmore Traditional Cask it is replacing which in my view is a good thing especially the toffee which was a little heavy in the Traditional bottling. The new Ardmore Legacy is an easy drinking Highland malt with a nice mellow touch of Ardmore peat, it lacks the oomph the Traditional had as it is bottled at 40% were the Traditional was bottled at 46%
The Ardmore Legacy has a RRP £29.99 and will be available to purchase at Tesco and Morrison's as well as select specialist whisky retailers from the beginning of October. If you are a fan of the soon to be gone Ardmore Traditional don't forget to stock up before it is too late.

What made the Ardmore Traditional for me was the 46% bottling strength, but the Ardmore Legacy does sound a different whisky not just a different bottling strength.

William the Traditional was a bit heavy on the toffee notes, whether that was natural or added, who knows but good to hear the toffee isnt so prominent in the new Legacy. It is a pity they have decided to bottle the Ardmore Legacy at 40% but i will certainly give it a try, it is always good to have another whisky with some peat influence which has an everyday drinking price.

It does look a bit like a money/profit reason they have replaced the Ardmore Traditional with the 40% Ardmore Legacy but it does sound a different whisky going by your tasting note William. I will certainly give it a shot as i am always happy to try something new.
