I am heading up to Glasgow next week and should have time to spare, which of these two would be the best to visit? I am driving so would just be the basic tour.
Already phoned to check Auchentoshan have two casks to pick from for fill you own and Glengoyne have one. _________________ Putting the func in dysfunctional. |

| Both are good visits, there is a bus which runs from Buchanan street bus station in Glasgow city centre and it stops at the gates of Glengoyne, handy if you want to try a few drams or do one of the tours were you get to taste some of there whiskies. |

Both are very good visits, I have just done Auchentoshan ( again ) and will be back there in October, the staff are excellent, I have both casks from Auchentoshan and they are v good, I suppose it will depend which Whisky you prefer, my vote goes to Auchentoshan though ... |

| I would choose Auchentoshan probably due to the fact that i would choose Auchentoshan whisky over Glengoyne but both are good visits. |

As others have said both are good visits. Both distilleries usually have an annual maintenance shutdown around the end of July beginning of August, i think they should be back in production now but it is maybe worth while checking before visiting if you want to experience a distillery in production. You can still visit during their maintenace shutdowns but they dont have the same atmosphere and smells that are present when in production.. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Managed to get to Auchentoshan today, a very good visit indeed.
I arrived 15 minutes late but decided to join in the tour, the girl that was manning the shop/reception and possibly doing the next tour took me through and pointed out a couple of things on the way.
I joined the group at the still room and with a couple of jokes at my expense was made to feel welcome. The rest of the tour was very good and the guide was spot on as well.
I did not take the free samples at the tasting bit but did try the 1999 and 1996 before deciding to bottle a 1999 for myself.
As Sorren said the staff were excellent right down to the gate man who gave me a wave on the way back out and they probably made the day.
Also on a side note the shop has all the travel retail stuff for sale and both Auchentoshan and Glengoyne are in production. _________________ Putting the func in dysfunctional. |
