|
|
The old man was going through his cupboard and has an unopened bottle from the Legend series. I told him not to open it and his reply was 'oh, that's a pitty, I like the Bowmore.' Now I am feeling a little guily so would like to get him a replacement for Christmas and one as close to the Legend bottle as I can. I can find very little into on it on the net other than the tasting notes.
Would anyone out there be able to suggest which Bowmore I should get as a replacement? Cheers. |

The obvious bottle to suggest would be the current bottle of Bowmore Legend which you can usually find in most big supermarkets for under £25.
You dont say which bottling from the Bowmore Legend Series you have but if you are looking for another bottle in the series here is a list of the series:The Legend Of The Gulls - Released 1995 (Limited Edition)
The Legend Of The Devil - Released 1996 (Limited Edition)
The Legend Of Donnachie Mhor - Released 1997 (Limited Edition)
The Legend Of The Phantom Horseman - Released 1998 (Limited Edition)
The Legend Of The Princess Giant - Released 1999 (Millennium Limited Edition)
The Legend Of The Laird And The Angel - Released 2000 (Limited Edition)
The Legend Of The Sea Maiden - Released 2001 (Limited Edition)
The Legend Of The Hero's Return - Released 2002 (Limited Edition)
The Legend Of The Sea Dragon - Released 2003 (Limited Edition)
The Blacksmith And The Fairies - Released 2004 (Limited Edition)
The Legend Of Godred Grovan - Released 2005 (Limited Edition)
The Battle Of Gruinard - Released 2006 (Limited Edition)
Bowmore Legend - Released 2007 (New design similar to what we have now and no longer a limited release) If you are looking for something a bit more special than the current standard Bowmore Legend then i would recommend the Bowmore Tempest 10 year old (batch 1, 2 and 3 are all very good) or the Bowmore Darkest 15 year old where the sweet sherry notes take precedence over the peat here.
Alternatively if you are looking for something extra special then i can recommend the Bowmore 1982 29 year old limited release which was released earlier this year and is an excellent expression of Bowmore. You should find these available from
The Whisky Exchange

It is the 'Legend Of The Sea Dragon' bottle.
Is the whisky of the current Legend the same as that in the series of tins that was released? That would be ideal for me and my dad if it is. Thanks for the suggestions. |

I think the only difference really is the current Bowmore Legend doesnt have packaging with a story and artwork about an Islay legend, i reckon they ran out of legends so now the packaging is plain with no story.
Having said that the fact that it is single malt means no 2 releases or batches of any single malt whisky will be 100% identical but most people would not be able to tell the difference between any 2 bowmore legend releases.
So i would say go ahead and get the latest bottle of Bowmore Legend, as William said above you should find it in most supermarkets |

I think they done some Legend bottlings with an 8 year old age statement for the Italian market although i believe all the bottlings were approx 8 years old although the bottles didnt carry a statement.
Snufkin the Legend you can buy today should be the same. |
