I am trying to find a nice replacement for the green label, has anyone here had the fortune or misfortune of trying the new label. _________________ The Laga 16.

Otherwise it will be Islay Mist 8 or Black Grouse. _________________ The Laga 16.

Why did they stop the green label, any ideas? |

Just over 1 year ago now. I got a few bottles to put away, trying to find a bottle now is very hard, considering how accessible it was ?. |

I heard it was accessibility, the range as it is now goes up in price nicely. I have a pour left of my green label and really wish I had more. _________________ The Laga 16.

I have not tried any of the Grouse line, I just prefer more smoke and peat on the palate than a standard blend. _________________ The Laga 16.

The black grouse is very simple to the point I added other whisky to it, over did it with Jameson, smoke on the nose and mouth. If i had to recommend one, I would go for the naked grouse but it's not a peat/smoke whisky ?.
The black grouse it's bad, just not complex which sums up most of the range.
Blends I recommend you would like are, Islay mist or finlaggan. |

Why did they stop the green label, any ideas? | Money/profit will be the simple answer. The JW Green Label was a blended malt which was 15 year old and Diageo can probably make more money today with the 15 year old components of the Green Label selling them as single malts. For example Talisker was a component.
Personally I think the Johnnie Walker Double Black is a very good blended whisky but I would never consider it a replacement for the Johnnie Walker Green Label. I would suggest if you were looking for something of similar style to the Green Label then you may like some of the individual component whiskies that went into the Green Label such as Cragganmore, Linkwood, Talisker and Caol Ila. There would have been a few more whiskies that went into the Green Label but these are the ones I know Diageo highlighted as component whiskies of the Green Label. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

It was affordable and thats why I love it, for the price you get the best of the component malts without forking out the cash. _________________ The Laga 16.
