Hard to justify Caol Ila 12

In my area Caol Ila 12 runs for 76.99 USD while Lagavulin 16 is 60 USD at costco. While I have tried Caol Ila once before and recommend it I would not buy it.

Why would you ever buy that over a laga 16, you're right. It's not even that good. It's like the Bowmore 10, all very.....beige....ya know, a bit dull and nothing really going on.

One of my favorite drams is Caol Ila Distillers Edition 1997 Moscatel Finish. I have half of my bottle left and I really like this one. I enjoy it every bit as much as Lag 16 and that says a lot for it as the latter is one of my first class favorites. I am not familiar with the Caol Ila 12 so I can't comment on it.

It is weird that pricing strategy, even weirder that costco carries diageo alcohol and does not sell Caol Ila 12. Only Lagavulin 16, JW Red, Black, Gold, Blue, Buchannan's 12, Oban 14 and a few other Spirits owned by them.

That does seem like crazy pricing, both are excellent whiskies but i have never come across the Caol Ila 12 priced higher than the Lagavulin 16.

Not sure if it will be the case here but often companies bulk buy and the price you see the whisky at on the shelf is based on the price they acquired it for. Perhaps the Lagavulin stock was purchased by costco some time ago or they bought in very high quantities so they can afford to sell it at this price. Whatever the reason for the pricing I would say $76 for Caol Ila in the US would be normal but $60 for Lagavulin 16 is a bargain I would have expected to see a price tag of around $70 - $80 in the US.

For Laga 16 we run 80-100 standard, Caol Ila 12 can run for 48 however I do not live near the store I order whisky from so it is not worth it.

Kilchoman and a few others are worth ordering from them, and I am still spitballing Laga 12.

Damn, keep your eyes open, if you are on vacation it is worth a shot.

Costco must sell alcohol to you even without a card. if they can sell it some states do not allow it. Just bring cash in and let them know why you are there.

That does seem quite expensive?

I was in Costco at the weekend I am pretty sure it was £39 quid for Lagavulin 16 (I haven't tried this).
