|
|
Those of you who recall the outstanding Ardbeg Supernova 2009 and 2010 releases will be very pleased to hear that Ardbeg is releasing a 3rd expression of their peatiest single malt, Arrdbeg Supernova 2014.
Ardbeg Supernova 2014 was bottled at 55% ABV and will be available exclusively to the 100,000 Ardbeg Committee members, if you are not a member get yourself over to the Ardbeg website and sign up now or you will have no hope of getting a bottle.
Ardbeg Supernova will be on sale around the world from 12th September 2014.
Supernova 2014 will mark the return of Ardbeg's research experiment in space, the launch coinciding with the date a vial of Ardbeg spirit will re-enter the earth's atmosphere after nearly three years orbiting the globe aboard the International Space Station.
I have asked Ardbeg for some more info such as number of bottles available, number of bottles each Ardbeg Committee member can buy and the price, I will update you if and when i get an answer.
Meanwhile you will find the official tasting note and some more info here:

£125 has been mentioned on other sites, an official conformation would be (un) welcome.. _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |

As they recently announced the forthcoming release of the Ardbeg Kildalton 2014 at £120 i wouldnt be surprised if the Supernova 2014 is around the same priice. Hopefully the rumoured £125 price is no more than speculation.
I will probably have a bottle anyway as i wont be able to resist. |

| What is the point in Ardbeg announcing the release of the Ardbeg Supernova 2014 and not announcing the price. |

I have heard back from Ardbeg and they have confirmed that the price of the Ardbeg Supernova 2014 Committee Release will be £124.99 and it will be limited to 1 bottle per committee member.
Ardbeg however are not revealing how many bottles are in the release, they told me "the quantity of the release is commercially confidential". _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

They are pricing many of their committee members out of the market with pring like this, i am sure it will be good but i wont pay this and you will probably have pastage to add to it. When i pay this sort of price for a whisky i expect something rare, by not declaring the age or the number of bottles tells me this isnt rare if it was they would brag about it.
A couple of bottles of the Ardbeg Corryvreckan will do me fine for my Ardbeg hit, i am not making a greedy company richer. |

| Alastair they have certainly priced me out, i wont pay £125 for this but they are obviously confident plenty of other members will. |

Only because they can see a fast buck as they believe the prices will soar on the secondary market....because they will, because the end man will pay an even higher price because he also believes it's a good investment. Another collectors one.
I'm out too. £65 for Ardbeg Day was fine. The jump of 100% is one I'm not prepared to pay either. Can but won't. There are many others I'd rather have thanks and save the money. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| Looks like they are changing it from being a Committee to a elite wealthy members club who will pay any price. I buy many whiskies in this price range but this really doesnt qualify to be in this range at least not with the information provided. |

As others have said they must be pricing out many of their own committee members. i would also buy whisky in this price range but i really dont think this whisky should be near this price range.
And why would they not reveal the number of bottles in the release, they should not be allowed to conceal this. Sounds like it wont be a very limited release and if they revealed the number of bottles people knowledgeable whisky drinkers wouldnt pay the asking price. |

| I would have loved to have tasted the Supernova 2014 as the first 2 releases were brilliant but i am not paying the price either, i could but i wont, they have gotten too greedy. |
