Highland Park 18 Vs Macallan 18

Need your opinion people, which one should I go for, the older bottle version of Highland park 18 or Macallan fine oak 18, Price isn't a factor here, just looking for the best quality of whisky.

You mention price is not an issue. However, the Macallan you mention is around twice the price of Highland Park 18. The Macallan Fine Oak 18 goes for approx.. 200 British pounds. I have experienced both. For the money, there are other bottles I would much rather have. However, I would probably go for the Macallan 18 if tied down to a choice between the two. The Highland Park 18 is very popular but I have always found it very "salty' at least for my palate. I have come to enjoy it a little more over the years when offered at social gatherings but I much prefer the Highland Park 30 from the Macphail's Collection which is exquisite. As for Macallan I would take the Macallan 14 Cooper's Choice over the 18 year you mention. Just a few thoughts.....

Both are without a doubt quality whiskies, i would not rate one above the other, they are simply different and it would depend on my mood which one i would reach for. Having said that if i could only have one of them i would go for the Highland Park 18.

Both are superb whiskies but if i were to choose it would definitely be the Macallan Fine Oak 18 year old

I am pretty certain that the Highland Park 18 will always be around but not so sure about the Macallan 18 Fine Oak with the way Macallan has been dropping age statements lately so for that reason i would go for the Macallan which is excellent.

Both are excellent high quality whiskies just different, my choice woulld be the macallan if money was no object as i havent had that as often as the HP and it is superb.

Both really are outstanding whiskies, it really comes down to your personal preference, neither will disappoint. A couple of years ago i would have considered the Highland Park 18 as a top quality everyday dramming whisky but nowadays it isnt priced priced for that but still a brilliant whisky. The Macallan 18 Fine Oak i would look at as something special but your are very much paying a premium for the rarity of this bottling, price aside it is an outstanding malt. If i had to choose i would say the Macallan 18 Fine Oak.

I am very much a Highland Park 18 fan, i have only ever had the Macallan Fine Oak at tastings but was never inspired enough to buy a full bottle, personally i would prefer the Macallan sherryoak 18

As others say, HP vs Mac Fine Oak, different styles and both excellent. If you want to try Macallan, suggest you also consider SpeyMalt bottlings from G&M. Excellent whisky , better value and comparable as they have bourbon cask as well as sherried cask styles.

I have only had a couple of bottles of the Macallan 18 Fine Oak due to Macallans greedy pricing but it is really superb.

Well Macallan it is when and thanks for in input guys. I'll be getting a bottle in late September, so I don't get as much grief for spending so much.
