|
|
Morning all. I'm wondering if folk can share their opinion on what bottles of a collection are worth parting with. I by no means have rare ancient bottlings of Port Ellen etc but I do have some unique bottles. The two I do currently have interest in parting with are two Bruichladdich bottlings which have both been signed by Duncan Mcgillveray. I have a Port Charlotte 10yr old and an Octomore 6.1. Are these worth keeping hold of or simply ones that should be drunk?
Thanks. |

The Octomore 6.1 hasn't been around long and can still be found in whisky shops and the Port Charlotte 10 is readily available, perhaps being signed by Duncan Mcgillveray will attract some buyers or even add some value to the bottles but personally i wouldn't pay more for a signed bottle which i was going to drink and discard the bottle but there may be a collector who may pay more.
The Octomore 1st and 2nd editions are fetching up to £120 - £200 at auction but you may be lucky to fetch the price you paid for the 6.1 IMO, i think you would need to hold on to it for a few years and even then the profit wouldnt be great when you take in to consideration the postage and auction costs. I would say if you know you will enjoy them then open them and enjoy. |

| I agree, i dont think you would make a great deal of profit above what you would have paid but profit is profit. Perhaps in a few years they would fetch a few pound more but they wont make you much more. The signature certainly will make them more sellable but may not add much to the value. |

| Thanks folks. Do let me know where the Port Charlotte 10 is readily available as in the UK I can't find it anywhere. They do have the Port Charlotte Scottish Barley which is the NSA bottling but isn't anything as good as the 10 year old. |

Must've been a generous pour of that Balvenie if you're mixing up threads! |

I was posting from the couch using the ipad and must have hit the wrong forum link with my big fingers. |
