Given the Thread on the Balvenie 50 I thought it would be interesting:
Nicest I've ever been offered at a wedding was the Glenfarclas 50 YO.

At a friends wedding last year there was a great choice of whiskies for all guests to have as much they wanted, knowing my liking for single malts he asked for my advice on which whiskies would go down well with most guests. On the day he had a choice of Highland Park 18, Glenfarclas 30, Glenlivet 18, Glenlivet Nadurra, Glenfiddich 15, Talisker 10, Lagavulin 16, Caol Ila 12, Ardbeg 10 and Ballantines 17. He had 3 bottles of each and i think more than a few guests discovered a liking for single malts at his reception

I must compliment you on the selection at that price point. The oly bottle that I feel does not belong in the Livet 18. I think the others are all great P?V but that the livet 18 is not a standout. (obviously the Ballatines does not fit in with the others but it is a good bottle)

That is a nice selection you made Mark, I am sure it was a great reception.

I have never been offered a 50 year old whisky at a wedding yet. A memorable wedding I was at not so long ago in Northern Ireland had a selection of various vintages of Midleton which made it a fantastic night for me.

Scotch single malt whisky has certainly come to be thought of as a luxury spirit in the past 10 years, often the choice now rather than fine wines or champagnes. I have never been served anything as rare as a Balvenie or Glenfarclas 50 year old at a wedding but i have had the Glenfiddich 30 and Highland Park 30 at a friends wedding.

In my wedding gift bag each guest got a personalised miniature of an unspecified speyside malt with our names and date on!

One of my (many) happy memories of the wedding night party was strolling to the bar and ordering 7 double taliskers for myself and my best friends to enjoy a little nightcap before the final dance!
