I had a Bowmore 16 year old a few years ago which was distlled in 1992 and was matured in Bourbon and Bordeaux Wine Casks which was a decent whisky, is this the one you mean. I think there was a series of these 16 year olds with various types of cask maturation distilled in the early 1990s and they were pretty popular.
