A few people have emailed asking if i know anything about Arrans new 12 year old which was released this month, well here is some info on it which i received from Arran.
The Arran distillery has just released The Arran 12 year old as part of the standard Arran range, and in addition to the already existing 10 year old.
They have used unpeated malted barley to create the whisky and it has been matured in re-fill Sherry casks and then married for over 9 months in first-fill Sherry Hogsheads (Spanish Oak) to provide a richer, more complex bottling of Arran.
It is non chill-filtered to retain the full character of the whisky and was bottled at at 46% ABV.
This is the tasting note i received from Arran (Havent tried it mysef yet but it does sound enticing.)
TASTING NOTE
Colour: Deep Golden Honey
Nose: An aromatic masterpiece with rich fruitcake mingling with fudge and toffee notes. Butterscotch sauce over vanilla ice cream. Sweet-fruit characters emerge with a dash of water; apple and banana.
Taste: Oaky and rich with a distinct hazelnut character emerging. There is a hint of bitter fruit, like cooking apples, to balance the sweet caramel and malty notes and prolong the complexity.
Finish:Character by the cask load. Sherry notes dominate but never overwhelm this Arran Malt which has taken twelve years maturation in its stride. Older and wiser?

Another sherried malt is always welcome as far as i am concerned. It is a natural progression for Arran to release an older malt now good to see they have gone for a sherried malt. I wonder if it will be available in the US. Anyway i will be sure to watch out for the reviews on it as i have a soft spot for sherried malts.

Good to see Arran releasing another malt. I think a new sherried malt may be a good addition to my - dare i say it, Christmas list. Nothing more Christmassy than a new sherried malt on Christmas night.
Not sure if you will have this available in the US Mac, I have had a browse in the big online shops here in the UK and none of them seem to have it in stock yet and i cant find any reviews or mention of it in the other big online websites.

That is good news to see Arran progressing with a new addition to their core range of malts but they really have to get it distributed amongst the big whisky retailers as Gary already mentioned it doesnt appear to be available from the big online whisky shops.
