|
|
Hello Fellow Forum Fellows
I am visiting Islay on Monday and would like to know if there are any Distillery Only bottles worth seeking out and do you know if there is a limit on how many bottles of whisky I can pack in my hold luggage, taking into account the weight limit, they will be well protected to survive the trip ?
Thanks in anticipation |

Should be a fun trip, I plan to visit there once I finish my Physicians Assistant training which will take about 4 years total. _________________ The Laga 16.

If there is a particular distillery you like then it may be worth calling to see if they have any Distillery Only bottles available at the moment but i would guess there wont be any until the Islay festival which kicks off on the 24th May.
I have never had a problem putting all the bottles that i wanted into my hold luggage as long as it is within your weight limit which i believe the standard allowance is 20kg with Flybe, i wouldnt think that has changed but a quick call to flybe should confirm it as best being sure. Or the cabin crew on the way out to Islay should be able to confirm the allowance in your luggage.
You will find some limited Islay whisky bottlings in the Islay Whisky Shop in Bowmore's Shore Street.
Enjoy your trip. |

I have never had a problem with bottles in my hold luggage with flybe, but you soon get to the max 20kg as bottles of whisky are heavier than you think. You may find a some distillery only bottlings or limited releases in the distllery shops but as Kray says they will be waiting until the Islay festival for the next batch of distillery only releases. Emjoy your trip. |

Had a very good time on Islay, no problems with bringing bottles back in hold bag well protected, did stop off at a certain whisky shop and my friends managed to get there Islay purchases put in with shop bottles they had posted to them at no extra cost very good. |

Had a very good time and tasted some great whisky on our Warehouse Tours, only Lagavulin Triple Matured Edition made it into my bag as all the others I fancied were available cheaper elsewhere, no other (new to me) special bottles available due to the Festival later in May I think.

I'm glad you had a successful excursion to Islay and of course the Lagavulin purchase sounds right up my alley. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

If you like Lagavulin you may be interested in the others I tried on the Warehouse Tour,
taken from the cask,
New Spirit 68.8%
10 yr old 58.2%
16 yr old 52.4%
21 yr old 48%
32 yr old 47.8% (1982)
48 yr old 43% (1966) Apparently the oldest cask at Lagavulin
The last two were 10/10 for me, as a Lagavulin fan an unbelievable experience, one that will live with me for ever. |
