Diageo have announced today the global launch of Haig Club Single Grain Scotch Whisky , in partnership with global sporting icon David Beckham and British entrepreneur Simon Fuller.
The first thing I noticed about the new whisky is the bottle, is it just me or have they taken the design from a David Beckham aftershave bottle
It will certainly stand out on the shelves.
The look of the the bottle aside, Haig Club is a single grain whisky from the Cameronbridge Distillery which has been crafted using a unique process that combines grain whisky from three cask types, Blender Chris Clark carefully selected Refill, American Oak and Rejuvenated casks, which Diageo tells me delivers a fresh, clean style that showcases butterscotch and toffee for an ultra-smooth taste and a new style of Single Grain Whisky.
I haven't had the chance to taste it yet but I have been told that it should be available in around a month or so and I shall certainly let you know my thoughts on it then.

It certainly looks like we will now have a original distillery single grain whisky category. I wonder what the price will be |

There is an aftershave bottle that looks like this, the brand escapes me at the moment but i dont think it was David Beckhams own brand.
A new whhisky is always welcome, given the huge stock Diageo must have to choose from i would hope this is something worth trying and hopefully it will be at a decent drinkable price.
I will be interested in what you think of it William. |

I think i have had this aftershave
I agree with the above, it is very welcome if it is a drinkable price. The Beckham connection will certainly get it noticed by non whisky drinkers and grain whisky is certainly a good introduction to whisky. |

Extending the reference to Beckham, there could be a kibitz regarding the expression :"Bend it like Beckham" somewhere to be discovered-for example Instead of the ball it might be the elbow.

Seems an odd thing for D-Becks to be getting involved in.
I don't really get an image of him sitting back with a whisky tumbler in hand, always had him down as a Babycham man.
Perhaps this is a precursor to a sponsorship deal with his new American football "soccer" team? |

| The bottle looks nice and I approve of the colour, but this being Diageo, I suspect a heavy price tag comes with it ?. |

You got me on that one. If you asked 1000 Canadian folks here what babycham referred to, you would get 1000 blank stares.

Google is your friend. It's a drink from way back when, im not sure they even sell it anymore, it was synonymous with not very manly men, drank by those who couldn't hold their liquor. |

My emphasis, hope springs eternal! I wouldn't take a wager though. Surely no lower shelf dookit for a NAS single grain in an apothecary bottle with an endorsement from whisky expert, David Beckham? _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

Probably a very good move by Diageo teaming up with David Beckham and Simon Fuller, single grain whisky should certainly appeal to a wider audience and will be more palatable to those new to whisky and i am sure David Beckham and Simon Fuller will attract the interest of many new to whisky. Myself, like the others here, i am just looking for a good whisky perhaps something different and interesting.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it William and hopefully it is a decent price for what is a no age statement single grain whisky, hopefully it will be no more than £20 something but i may be way out with my guess, i hope not.
and i like the look of the bottle, different from what we normally see on the shelves of the whisky shops. |

| I would guess it will come in at around the same price as the new William Grant NAS single grain, wasnt that just over £40, hopefully i am wrong. |

| certainly an eye catching bottle, i am sure it will be a pleasant easy to drink whisky like grain whisky tends to be but the big question is what price tag will they put on it. |
