Someone told me recently that there are as little as ten to twenty casks of "Hanyu" left. Is this true? I hope not!

It is possible that is all that is left. The owners of Hanyu went bankrupt and stopped distilling back in 2000 and the stills were dismantled in 2004. The grandson of the founder, Ichiro, purchased the mature stock from the new owners who didnt want it but i have never seen a figure stating how much stock he bought and how much of that will be left today.

Ichiro has now set up a new small distillery named Chichibu and i believe some of the equipment in the new distillery he bought from the new owners of the old Hanyu distillery when it was dismantled in 2004.

You could try tweeting the Number One Drinks Company https://twitter.com/NumberOneDrinks they handle Hanyu and other Japanese brands here in the UK.

I wonder if this sort of message is carefully crafted spin to make the most price wise of what is left. That said at some point there wull eventually be so few casks left. So that time might be now
