I bought one of these for £25 in Waitrose on Monday, already it has nearly tripled in value. This investment lark is great. At this rate it will be worth over a million quid in early April. |

| Jeez. They really have some weird pricing. Only a few months ago I snapped up a Talisker 25 for £118 which seemed cheap at the time. |

Thing that cracks me up is the 80p!
Valvona & Crolla do the food hall in Frasers. Even weirder though, their own Web site has this available at £42.90, still overpriced right enough:

I remember when they had just the one shop in Edinburgh, on Elm Row. The shop had opened in the thirties after one of the Crollas had emigrated from Italy during the Great Depression. Even in the '80s it was still a traditional Italian deli with salamis hanging from the ceiling, bags of grain and rice on the wooden floors and a tatty fold out poster of the 1982 Italian world cup winning squad in the window.
While these days they still do top produce from the motherland (a truck leaves Milan every week packed with goodies) the prices are astronomical. Nothing hangs from the ceilings any more, the open bags are gone replaced with fancy displays. Now it's a currency extraction mechanism for Edinburgh's 4x4 brigade, who have so much money they simply don't care what they're spending. In short the soul was ripped out of the place long ago. In many ways it's a prosaic analogy for some of the current trends in whisky... always the way with a good thing isn't it? _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."
