Cardhu is adding a new expression to its range of Speyside whiskies with the launch Cardhu Amber Rock which has been double matured in toasted American Oak casks, to deliver richer notes of vanilla and spice.

Cardhu Amber Rock will be initially be available in France and Belgium from spring 2014, and then rolled out more widely in Western Europe (UK, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Greece & Netherlands) from late summer onwards.

To me it sounds like the Cardhu Amber Rock will be less fruity and more oaky like the Cardhu 12 used to be but with more spice and vanilla, should be interesting to try. I have always thought Cardhu has the potential to be a great single malt given some good wood to mature in.

I had a bottle of Cardhu 12 from Tesco recently as it was on offer, i hadnt had it for quite some time but i was very pleasantly surprised, an easy to drink anytime Speyside whisky. The spicier Cardhu Amber Rock does sounds interesting.
