Whisky Forum - 3 single malts for my club's tasting-Results

My chapter of the Companions of the Quaich is next meeting on Feb. 11th and I just learned of the 3 single malts being presented tht night.

Cooper's Choice Linkwood 46% abv
( I think this may be the 13 year old 1995)

Cooper's Choice Port Charlotte 46% abv
(I think this may be the 10Year heavily peated)

Glendronach Single Cask 55.4% abv , bottled exclusively for Companions of the Quaich
(I think this may be the 19 year old, 1991)

Any thoughts on these would be appreciated.

Love evening PC related that I've tried so I'm going to day that'll be splendid. Linkwood can be hit and miss in my experience, hopefully this will be a hit. And the Glendronach should be great as long as it's not one of the sulphur tainted ones.

I had a great evening last night at my single malt scotch club's dinner and tasting. Fifty-four people were present. When the list of single malts was mentioned to me weeks ago, details were provided as above. As it turned out, the specifics for each bottle were a little different than initially mentioned to me.

This is what we actually had last night:

Linkwood Cooper's Choice 1995 17 Year, single sherry cask, 46% abv. 0nly 450 bottles worldwide.

Port Charlotte Over 11 Year (11 yr 9 mths), Cooper's Choice, single cask, 46% abv, 400 bottles worldwide

Glendronach Single Cask, 11 Year, Pedro Ximenez puncheon,55.4%abv, 602 bottles worldwide. Bottled exclusively for Companions of the Quaich.

All three drams were impressive in their own right. The Linkwood had a multi-dimensional fruitiness and a delectable sweetness which was just right. The Port Charlotte was smoky and peaty with a unique burst of demarara sugar on the palate which created an amazing balance and link to a great long finish. The Glendronach was a real star. The high abv yielded such a smooth expression here that even neat it was fantastic. No fear about taint or sulphur with this one. It was glorious.

How much for a bottle of the Glendronach Single Cask? Are you able to bypass the LCBO setting the price as it was bottled exclusively for Companions of the Quaich.

$120 which is around Â£65 sounds a reasonable price for a single cask Glendronach

Interesting to read your thoughts on the PC it's fast becoming my favourite Islay malt. At least the cask strength ones I've tried are just wonderful.

I have been spitballing starting a tasting group, since I have not found any nearby here that do tastings of any sort. So far myself and another friend want to do this, partly so we can try new whiskies, still I am rather young I will be 22 next month and my friends are around the same age and are not interested in drinking for flavor rather for getting as drunk as possible.

I envy you Quaich and your ability to take part in these.

I can't help you there then.

However, console yourself safe in the knowledge that you have the weather and the women.

I tried to do a live forum tasting a while back, only bifter and I had the whisky in question but that seemed to go ok. I'd happily do so on a wider scale. Depending on the time difference.
