This years bottling is Glenmorangie Companta has been extra-matured in a selection of ex-French wine casks - Burgundy Grand Cru Clos de Tart casks and sweet fortified wine casks from Côtes du Rhône.

William, this one sounds like it has a lot of potential to be a winner. I've always been partial to the finer Glenmorangies. I would enjoy your taste notes William once you have a chance to try it. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Murray, hopefully it is as good as the earlier releases in the range. I suspect the Companta may sell out quickly due to Jim Murray naming last years release as his top whisky.
When i saw that the Companta contained whisky finished in a Burgundy Grand Cru cask i wondered whether Glenmorangie have possibly used some of the Burgundy Grand Cru cask whisky which was not chosen in the Glenmorangie Cask Masters competition. See the video for Cask A here: www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/glenmorangiecaskmasters.htm _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

That's a good point William. Very possible indeed. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| I have had a few of these Private Edition bottlings with the Sonnalta and Artein being my favourites to date. Hopefully the Companta is another good one. |

Thanks for that info..
I was wondering how limited that limited edition is going to be? anyone having any ideas? not surprised to see that it is a NAS single malt... but that is a different topic...

| mike most of the bottlings in the private edition range have been no age statement and all have been superb in fact i could happily put a the Sonnalta and Ealanta in my top 10 whiskies and a couple of the others were not far away from my top 10. They are limited but it wont just be a few hundred bottles, Glenmo have the worldwide market to satisfy, i would guess a release like this may be anything from 20,000 to 60,000 bottles which would still mean there is only a limited amount available in each marketplace throughout the world. |

and they are not necessarily NAS bottlings, they just have a name.
Ealanta was 19yo.
Just like Ardbeg Galileo had a name, but also a vintage and was 12yo. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

That's a good shout. The Burgundy did have a slight hint of sulphur though, I wasn't the only one to notice it:

| Yes that is very possibly what Glenmo have done as i am sure they would have went to a lot of effort to pick out enough Burgundy Grand Cru casks from their maturing stock to be able to supply demand for the Cask Masters release if it was chosen. Makes sense that they may have used it in the new Companta release. |

I remember that too. Though I'd guess they will be able to blend out any of notes. |

Hopefully it wont even need to be blended out, that is if it is the same whisky that is going into the Companta. |

Brent going by past releases it is usually launched here at around the same time as the UK.
William if you do try it then let me know what you think of it as this Private Edition series has been excellent to date and if it is any good i would stock up on a few bottles. |
