|

On a visit yesterday to my local coop I stumbled across a shelf of whiskies and spirits set aside from the rest in a quiet corner of the shop. On closer inspection the bottles turned out to be old stock which included..
Famous Grouse 10yo
Macallan 10 Sherry Oak - £29.99
Glenfiddich 12 Caoran Reserve - £28
Ardbeg 10 (normal pricing but older packaging style)
Bowmore 12 (normal pricing but older packaging styles)
Laphroaig 10 (£36?! - older packaging)
I picked up two of the Macallan's - with a £5 off voucher I had saved - I thought that wasn't bad considering the prices they are now online! Thought I'd give the Glenfiddich a miss after reading some of the reviews.
I guess my question is: is this usual practice for cooperative stores? And if I visited others would I find other discontinued or "older" bottlings? |

| I've never seen older bottles in either of the two Co-ops nearby, so I'd say you got lucky - especially with the Macallan! Mind you that's not a very big sample size so it may very well be common practice in other branches. |

| You can sometimes get lucky and find small Coops and indeed some other small shops which dont have a big turnover in whisky will have old or discontinued bottlings collecting dust on the shelf |

About 5 years ago i found some Glenmorangie Millennium Malt 12 year old on the shelf in a small coop, it had been sitting in their store room for about 9 years and someone found it and put it out on the shelf. i got 4 bottles for £20 each, all drunk now. _________________ There's no bad whisky. | Just got a bottle of Glenfarclas 10 yo from my local co-op for £26.99. I think it's the old style taller, slimmer bottle. |
