I am looking to buy Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 9.
Can anyone recommend where I could get one from.
There is one for sale in the current auction at scottishwhiskyauctions.com but I am not keen buying at auction
Let me know if you know!
Many Thanks

Hi Mark, i am not sure where you are based but the Balvenie Tun 1401 batch 9 was released exclusively in the US market so you are unlikely to find it in a shop in the UK and i expect very few will find there way to auction this side of the water. It should be available in reputable whisky shops in the US, that is if they have any left as it was released back in October.

| I would say that scotchwhiskyauctions would be your best bet, they are based in Glasgow and the auction is run by the founder of the Glasgow whisky festival, i wouldnt hesitate to recommend scotchwhiskyauctions. |

Hi Mark
SWA is your best bet - I have done some business with them and been very happy.
No Whisky shop in the USA will ship abroad, and many have problems shipping out of state due to various local laws. The only way around is to find a friendly relative and a friendly Whisky shop and a friendly credit card ...... Not impossible but takes some work

Thanks.
Just been on the phone to a dozen retailers in USA, stockist of Balvenie Tun and they all said they sold out batch 9 in 72 hours. mind you they only each had a few to sell as its an extremely rare batch.
Will have a go for it at the auction and see how it goes.
Many Thanks

Mark,
Believe you me I tried every shop I could get hold of in the USA within 24 hours and they were all sold out. It's mad how fast they went. The one on Scottish whisky auction is probably the only one on sale in the world. I would start saving up if you are after it, but it's a good choice I reckon. _________________ Guy |

Was it specifically batch 9 you were after? Batch 8 (Eurpoe et all release) is still kicking about at certian online retailers.....£230 at the moment, which is reasonable given it went on for £200 at launch and its a limited run.
Batch 8 is very, very good. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| I am a collector and feel if I don't get my hands on a batch 9 soon which is the rarest of all batches I won't get any unless I pay £1k's in months to come. |

Really? Batch 9 is the rarest?
It's comprised of 14 casks if I remeber correctly, batch 8 was only 12 casks and batches 6 and 7 only 9 casks.....
so batch 9 has the most amount of whisky in the bottling and is the most recent release, so it's probably the least rare.
You wont hit 1k a bottle, I've only seen batch 1 hit that figure over the years and that was a run of around 300 bottles from the distillery only. Even recent auctions of batch 5 (which was a total cracker) only broke £300-£400..... _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

thats because its new to market and all the collectors want one "now". Wait a bit and the price will be a lot lower.
The more sensible money on there are the batch 2's that are bidding at around £180. Looking at the most recent winning bids, batch 7 (the last US release) closed at ~£330
save your money, have some patience. None of these are going to hit 1k, there are simply too many tun1401's on the market......as a collector I would have thought you would know this...the only way you'll get that is if you have a batch #1 _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Just to add my thoughts .... In the UK the USA releases have commanded huge mark-ups at auction, but esp. the 4 from the travel retail has cost the most on the secondary market. UK releases at first auction go for a lot and then fall back quickly to below the others.
The problem with 9 is that it seems it was very hard to get a Bottle in the states.
Coming clean, I have a 9 but it took a lot of effort and involved a shop I have dealt with for a while so I fear reassurances about upcoming being cheaper may not be as accurate as the past.
Anyway, happy new year to all and good luck with whatever dram you are hunting.

Happy New Year to you all!
Office was quite yesterday so I had my secretary calling around many specialist independent whisky retailers who have been established for years to see if they can get me Balvenie Tun Batch 9.
They all replied that they have tried for weeks to get hold of some for their clients but its proving impossible.
A few did say that Batch 9 is worth much more than Batch 1 and their clients would pay up to £2k fo a bottle! !!
Sounds Crazy.
Time to open Bowmore 18....... |
