|
|
Following a global campaign by The Glenlivet which stretched across 37 countries and has seen thousands of whisky fans casting their votes to select a new limited edition from The Glenlivet, the results have finally been revealed. It appears that the majority of the voters including myself had a preference for the Exotic expression which picked up 39% of the vote.
The winning expression will be named "The Guardians' Chapter"? in recognition of the significant part the distillery's fan club - The Guardians of The Glenlivet - has made to the voting. The new whisky - which is non-chill filtered, 48.7% proof and a rich, indulgent single malt will be bottled in limited quantities although The Glenlivet haven't revealed how limited and it will be available around the world from March 2014, and you will be pleased to hear it is priced at a very drinkable price of £52/US $85 (or equivalent).

| The Exotic is the one that got my vote, although i didnt have the chance to taste any of them, i just went by the tasting notes. Good to hear it is £52 and not a greatly overpriced amount. |

Yes £52 is an ok price as long as it isnt limited to 500,000 bottles or something like that. The SWA or whoever sets the rules need to make a stricter rule for the use of the term "Limited Edition" as some releases are not so limited, i think companies who use the term should have to state the number of bottles. This is not a go at the Glenlivet, i will certainly have a bottle of the Guardians Chapter at £52 for a 48.7% special bottling of the Glenlivet but i am just making the point that the term "limited edition" is open for misuse at the moment.
William have you heard how many bottles will be in the release. |

I will certainly have a bottle.
Blackadder i know what you mean about the overuse of the term limited edition these days, if it is a limited edition they really should say how limited. |

Blackadder and Jim, i havent heard any number mentioned as far as how many bottles will be in the release, i would guess ithe worldwide figure would have to be a significant amount to satisfy the demand in the 37 countries that participated in the vote and many of them are large countries with a big demand for whisky so i am sure the Glenlivet wont be looking to let anyone down. Personally i hope there is plenty to go around so as if anyone fancies a 2nd bottle they wont have to pay mad secondary market prices. The Glenlivet may not even have a figure in mind for the release and will assess the demand in each country when it is released. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Got an email today from Glenlivet as a 'guardian', inviting me to purchase one from the whisky shop. I believe it's only available to guardians at the moment but must mean the full release must be imminent.
Got my bottle, £55 plus £4.85 postage hopefully it's a good one and I just hope it doesn't turn into another Devils Cask or Companta where the world goes crazy and it's worth £150 overnight as if it's decent I will certainly get another bottle. |

The email states:
| Quote: | | The Whisky Shop is offering Guardians the chance to purchase one of 250 bottles of the unique limited edition Exotic | Not 100% sure if 250 bottles is the UK allocation of the Glenlivet Guardians Chapter or if it is The Whisky Shops allocation. Either way i placed an order. |

I believe it's just a pre-release allocation for guardians prior to full release. I know that they will be available in a couple of weeks for the Glenlivet visitors centre as well.
No idea of numbers but assume it must be in the 1000's for the UK rather than the 100's having said that having secured a bottle to drink I'm not really too fussed! |

| I got the email also and it does kind of imply/hint at the 250 bottles that the Whisky Shop has are in some way unique. It doesnt matter now as by the time i checked my email they were sold out, a bit unfair for those who are at work and didnt get the email until latter. Let us know what you think of it Rob. |

| Don't think I'll be buying a bottle of this, Glenlivet doesn't really appeal to me ?. Plenty more whiskies out here I'm hoping to buy. I too, do hate it when special released are launch while at work. |

This campaign sounds very much like the recent Glenmorangie Cask Masters event in that the man in the street is given a range of options to vote for. Is this a new trend or have there been such events before? I can't really recall any.
It's not a silly price, which is good but it would be informative to know just how many bottles there will be. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."
