I had my first pour ever of this expression. Here are my taste notes from today for
Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey (Black Label).

Color-Amber
Body-Light to Medium

Neat-

Nose:Turkish delight, cherries, cherry cream, cherry blossoms, floral and sweet, Smore's and toasted marshmallows.

Palate: Creamy, spicy burst and mint/menthol flurries.

Finish: Long, cherry lozenges, fresh breath and lasting creaminess.

***I was expecting a rough, "mountain man", half moon-shine texture. Not so here. This is a much refined and "spirit-delicate" whiskey. The whiskey has a delightful pungent and sweet nose with a contrasting more intense palate and pleasant finish. I see why Jim Murray rates this one at 92. I really enjoyed it.

I tried Jack Daniels No7 years ago and found it way too sweet for my taste but tried it again recently when it was poured for me at a friends house and i was suprised that i quite enjoyed it, shows you how your taste can change. It wouldnt be a regular tipple for me but i wouldnt now say no if offered.

Good comments Innes. I understand that the current No7 has had "some of the heavier oils stripped" according to Jim Murray and that may account for its current improvement and the 92 rating he has given it.

Blackadder. Jim Murray rates the Single Barrel at 87, the Gentleman Jack at 77 and the one I tasted today, the No.7 at 92. The White Rabbit Saloon expression is rated 91 by him.

I have one of those miniature gift packs in the cupboard which i got as a gift, your post reminded me of it, i am sure it was a Jack Daniels No.7, Gentle Jack and Single Barrel that is in the pack, i should look it out and try them head to head some night.

Sounds a great idea.
