Hi All
I am hoping you connoisseurs can help me.
My partner has developed a taste for whiskey but is only at his early stages of whiskey drinking venture and his palette has not developed much yet. I would like to get him to try different whiskeys but every time I buy him a new one he seems to prefer his old ones which are Glenmorangie, Jamesons and Monkey Shoulder, which as far as i'm aware (i don't drink whiskey) are fairly mellow and easy drinking.
Please could anyone recommend similer whiskeys so I can buy him something as a gift which I will have a chance of him being to his taste?????
Many thanks in advance

Hi Emma. Here's some scotch whiskies that would seem to fit with your charcterization
of your partner's whisky tastes-
Aberlour 16
TheBalvenie Doublewood
Glenfiddich 15 The Solera Vat
Ballantine's 17 (Blend) Quite excellent!
Redbreast Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey 12 Year
***On another note, there are quite a variety of Glenmorangie's and I wonder if your partner has tried many of them such as The Quinta Ruban, Nectar D'or and the Sonnalta PX ( this one is fantastic). _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I'd have to say that given his current likings and the fact that you, and presumably he, wants to expand his horizons, I'd suggest Highland Park 12yo. It has a little of everything, but in no way over powering. It has some smoke, which could pave the way down the Islay route, but its not too smokey for a begginer.
Other than that, I'd possibly say Old Puteney 12yo as well, this one is more of a costal malt but again not too over powering.
Both of the above should be available at the supermarket (assuming you're in the uk) and won't cost too much money, both about £30 or £25ish when on offer. |
