I had a lovely dinner and scotch tasting at my single malt club chapter last night here in Ontario. The food, the company and the single malts all converged to make for once again a memorable evening.

The 3 malts were:

Laphroaig Cardeas Cask Strength 51% abv. (Only 30 bottles of the 220 were imported to Canada), quarter casks.

Glen Keith 18 Year, Berry Bros. & Rudd 1993, Cask Strength 54.4% abv.

Benriach 18 Year 1994, 246 bottles, 56.7% abv., specially selected for Companions of the Quaich (the pick of 6 cask samples).

I really enjoyed these malts. The Laphroaig had elements of a dessert malt with the lovely sweetness on the nose in particular. The Benriach impressed with complexity and balance. The nose aspect of a hot wok after a stir-fry of mushrooms with sweet soy sauce was a pleasant surprise. The Glen Keith had a particularly captivating Turkish delight on the nose and cherry cream.

I enjoyed the malts mostly neat with a few drops of water added towards the end of each dram. They opened as expected but frankly I preferred them all neat where the potent character of each was best appreciated.

Wasnt the Laphroaig Cardeas 2013 double matured in bourbon and port casks, i was unsuccessful getting a bottle, pity as i wouldnt have minded tasting a cask strength Laphroaig with a big port influence.

Hi Brummie. I believe it was the 2012 Feis Isle release.
