Comparison of Balvenie 12 Doublewood and Macallan 12

I decided to do a tasting test of these 2 drams and here's the results from today:

Balvenie Doublewood 12

Neat-
Nose: Wisps of Turkish delight, orange peel, buckwheat honey, cherry blossom chocolate candy with marashino cherry and cherry cream, sweet freshness embued with rum and raisin ice cream.

Palate: Dark fruit, spice, creamy, hint of BBQ smoke and fried banana blending to plantains.

Finish: Lingering, spice, sherried fruit remembrances and prune nectar notes.

Macallan 12

Neat-

Nose: Sherried fruit, pungent, toffee, spice and cinnamon burst and bakery hues.

Palate: Sherry notes embellished by dark chocolate, creamy and creme brulee.

Finish: Long, spice, coffee, purple seedless "eating grapes" and sweet prune nectar.

Well, this is a tough one. These two drams pair up quite nicely. The Doublewood nose is a real winner . The Macallan 12 palate is very satisfying and both have memorable finishes.

I would say both are excellent drams and I am a sucker for sherry finshes. Both are very worthwhile drams at 40% abv. If this were a horse race, I would say it ended in a "dead heat".

Great notes as always. I agree, there's little to choose between the two, however my heart is with the Balvenie (especially since they haven't gone Macallan's NAS/hike up the prices route!).
