The BenRiach Distillery Company has has walked away from the International Wine and Spirits Competition 2013 with a haul 10 well deserved medals between them, with their BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh expressions all scooping major awards.

The excellent BenRiach 16 year old and the outstanding BenRiach Authenticus 25 year old both picked up Gold Medals.

Info on the other medals here:

To this day I've still never tried a Benriach, partly because they make so many different expressions it's hard to know where to start, even after you've decided whether you want peated whisky or not! I think it's about time I try that 16 year-old then.

Some of the categories are ludicrous. For example there's one for 5 yo cask finished Islay whisky. Does anyone other than Kilchoman even do these? (Ps they won two in this category Wink )

I do like the stuff Glendronach and Benriach are turning out, i think Glendronach may have the bigger audience but Benriach is starting to get noticed but they have had a few hits and a few misses with their various cask finishes but the Benriach 16 is a decent malty dram and not a bad price for its age.

Laughing I certainly couldnt name another Islay 5 year old cask finish.

I ended up having a wee rant about it here : http://weewhiskyreviews.blogspot.com/2013/07/look-mum-i-won-iwsc-award.html

There are also four categories for Swedish malts, Taiwanese Malts...

---

I've only tried a few from Benriach, there massive range is great, but intimidating for the beginner on a budget!
