Hi all
Has anyone tried this, and if so what's the verdict? It looks a tad on the pricey side, I'm guessing it's been developed for the investment market more than anything else?

| I havent tried it, it was exclusive to the Whisky Shop which helps explain the £200 price, it was probably aimed at the Whisky Shop members club where members get a 10% discount so they would have paid £180 which is a little more acceptable for a single cask limited edition Glenlivet. |

I have wondered if the whisky shop do artificially inflate their prices to push membership to be honest as it makes no sense to buy something like this without joining.
I was thinking of buying one for me and keeping another one for ten years or so, as I suspect it may become collectable in time. Not that that's guaranteed at all. I do like Glenlivet, so if not it's no real loss! |

| I personally always avoid the Whisky Shop, priced for tourists and gift buyers IMO and of course their shops are often in premium tourist locations and these costs have to be covered but it wont be by me. I would always price compare over at The Whisky Exchange before buying. |

You will always find one shop beating another over prices especially whiskies such as those from discontinued distilleries, the prices can vary greatly. There are a few sleazy prifiteering whisky shops online with big markups on all whisky TWE certainly isnt one of them
Does the alexander james shop supply the original box/packaging for the whiskies they are selling, they seem to show all their whiskies in their own shop brand packaging. Not supplying the original packaging can effect the value of the whisky. Also there prices for core range whiskies are for from the best for example Lagavulin 16 £52.25, Talisker 10 £39.75 i could go on but it is a shop i would consider but you may find the odd good buy. |

I agree prices can vary massively, I used that as an example, as the difference is over 50%.
Alexander and James do supply the original packaging. I suspect they add their own packaging in the pictures to add to their ever so slightly 'poncy' brand image.
It is slightly ironic though how this could potentially harm their sales as your not the first person to question this. They really should show a picture of the original packaging, particularly with bottles that may appeal to a collector or investor IMHO.
I'm absolutely not being critical of TWE by the way, but this thread does show it really can pay to shop around on every single purchase you consider making. |

The fact that the Whisky Shop can continue in business, even during a recession, is a sad reflection of the whisky market. A quick check reveals that some of their online prices, even for the standard expressions, are (still) truly shocking::
Macallan Gold - £41.49
Highland Park 12 year old - £39.49
Lagavulin 16 year old - £64.99
Longmorn 16 year old - £68.99
However they are welcome to their ignorant and blas? customers, there is always value to be had elsewhere. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."
